Gators in VC: Scott Weiss Joins Andreessen-Horowitz
March 12, 2011 @ 4:04 PM by J. Bryan Scott
Andreessen-Horowitz has hired Scott Weiss as a general partner. This makes four University of Florida alumni (Gators) who’ve reached the top level of Silicon Valley venture firms:
- Bill Gurley, General Partner at Benchmark Capital (also holds MBA from UT-Austin)
- Venkat Mohan, General Partner at Norwest Venture Partners (also holds MBA from Harvard)
- Melissa Guzy, Managing Director at VantagePoint Venture Partners
- Scott Weiss, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz (also holds MBA from Harvard)
Back in The Swamp, I’m aware of:
- Dan Rua, General Partner at Inflexion Partners. I interned with Dan back during my time at UF.
Andreessen-Horowitz, though barely two years old, has already become one of the most respected firms in Silicon Valley. Marc and Ben have a history of sharing their thoughts on their blogs:
- Marc’s old blog contains fantastic insights into operating a startup and some of his early opinions on VC. Unfortunately Marc deleted his blog shortly before founding A16Z. You can find an archive of his old posts here.
- Ben does the majority of blogging for A16Z. Ben’s blog provides an uncharacteristically transparent view on his firm’s investment thesis and tactics. Find it here.
Bill Gurley and Dan Rua also have fairly active VC blogs. Hopefully we’ll see insights from Scott Weiss too.
